Sea of Night, by Alex, Grade Three

Sea of Night

Starfish

are the stars of the sea

as they twinkle

in the dark water

of the night

a sand dollar

glints in the boundless

sea of black

a hermit crab

scuttles across

the light of dawn

Hummer comes humming

sipping sweet nectar

dipping

sipping

with his long black bill

humming

hovering

on invisible wings

his tail a pencil tip

writing on the sky.

Hummer,

where do you come from

where will you fly,

a look-out gleam

in your shy black eye?

Indescribable hummer

gone in a blink,

hummer of summer

what do you think?

Glasswing Butterfly

Wishshshshshshshshshsh!

You flutter

You flit

You fly

On wings of sunset sky

A black horizon of night

A glitter of silver  white

Bright with flowing

Moonlight glowing

Wishshshshshshshshshsh!

Vanishing glass wing

Where will you be going?

Baby Bunny, by Ms. Bergeron’s Class, Grade Three

Plant a carrot garden

for a baby bunny

soft as a cloud

round as a ball of yarn

a peach plump bunny

silent in sunshine

listening …

Plant a juicy sweet carrot patch

for a hippety hopper

a flippety flopper

to come leaping,

criss-cross crickety cross

a little thump thump thumper

to come …

spring grass rustling

chomp chomp chompety chomp!

Ducklings

Snuggling, huggling

little chubby ducklings

sparkling eyes

lemon fluff

little feather puffs

candy corn beaks

wondering peeps

wondering, wishing …

when will they swim?

diving, dipping,

splooshing in,

paddling, paddling

with tiny webbed feet

flippering home

for a puffering treat.

by Ms. Morasse’s Class, Grade Three

Great Horned Owl

Little Owlet,

what are you thinking,

dreaming in your mind …

binocular eyes

black as night,

fluffy baby owl,

are you ready

for your first flight?

Open your wings

white as snow,

bounce, spring,

and down you go.

Swoop,

Wooooshshshshshshshshshsh!

Flap, flutter, fly …

float into the midnight sky.

Heart of Whelk

Tell me of your journey

through the dark

of sea deep

and bright yellow soft sand

how you came

tumbling

swirling and twirling

spinning and whirling

carved into a staircase

for little sea creatures

smoothed by the currents

riding the tide

crossing the sea so blue

how you came to the beach

where I find you.

Poppy, by Mr. Bernstein’s Fourth Grade Class

Little poppy bud

all wrapped up

like a baby in a bundle

unravel, unwrap your wrinkly petals

soft as moonlight,

tissue paper petals

a whisper on the wind.

Come float,

sway in summer sunlight,

your shy heart

hiding inside.

Wake, little poppy,

take your first peek

at the world.

Little Bunny

Looking

Loving

Wondering,

where’s life going

to take me?

Shadows

watching

Bunny

listening

with her

long

Tender ears

as tender

as

love

as

loving

as a

friend

as quiet

as a

moment.

Sun On Your Face, by Phoebe, Grade 4

Morning glory dozing dreaming of wishes

can you keep a secret, green soft sunshine?

Of memories, almost lost in the monster of time

Keep the morning, the love, the friendship, the fear,

sweet dew drops holding a tear

ballerina opening slowly to a sugary sun

smiling softly longing for fun

opening, petal by petal

for it takes some time for the sun to settle

be patient, little gift

ruffly dress silky swift

peachy fingers

gentle breeze lingers

emerald green gloves

sugary sun every flower loves

reaching, soft gray cresents

hugging the ground,

wrapped up tight like presents

by Phoebe, Grade 4

Misty Morning Fresh Breeze, by Hannah, Grade 4

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

Misty Morning  Fresh Breeze

Your emerald green stem

fresh new leaves

blossoming in Mid-April

I’ll whisper to you

and ask, “What’s your secret?”

Your petals sway awake

so delicate

like pink silk cloths

Your beauty surprises me

Your sweet pinks are of the glowing sunset

Fresh

new blossom like a twinkling

bright star in the SKY
